Nick Caminiti named 2016 king of the wrap world in Avery Dennison “Wrap Like a King” challenge

Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions announced today that Toxic Rat by Nick Caminiti, car wrap installer at Exotic Graphix, was named the King of the Wrap World in the “Wrap Like a King” Challenge at the 2016 SEMA Show. Caminiti competed against 224 other installers from 21 countries to earn the title of King of the Wrap World 2016.

“As soon as Richard Rawlings announced my name I couldn’t believe it,” said Caminiti. “My team and I at Exotic Graphix worked so hard to design a unique, creative and technically challenging wrap. It’s an honour to be recognized as the 2016 King of the Wrap World for our hard work and effort. We can’t wait to take the trophy home to Australia and show it off!”

Caminiti used Avery Dennison® Supreme Wrapping Film Diamond Silver with DOL 1460 overlaminate film to complete his entry in the Challenge. He chose a 1930 Ford Tudor, to stand out from other submissions, and paid extra attention to the interior of the car (for example, behind the wheels and the dashboard). His design concept was centered around a custom sixties feel, with a touch of ‘digital’ that couldn’t be achieved using custom paint alone. After airbrushing and scanning in high definition, the Toxic design was printed onto the DOL 1460 overlaminate. Curves at the back corners posed the biggest challenge, needing great skill.

Caminiti’s King of the Wrap World prize package includes a three-night stay in Las Vegas to attend the SEMA show, an Avery Dennison Wrap Class of his choice, a personalized 67” Race Ramp product and Wrap Like a King swag. In addition, he will receive a $1,000 cash prize, a King of the Wrap World trophy, and marketing support from Avery Dennison. This support includes Facebook® ads, exposure on the Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions website, and a print ad in a trade show publication. The complete prize package is valued at almost $5,000.

A panel of eight industry judges chose the King of the Wrap World as well as regional kings from the West, Midwest, East, South, Canada, Europe and Australia/New Zealand regions. The 2016 Challenge judges included Justin Pate, Molly Waters, Myles Kovacs, Peter Wright, Vilmar Klok, Nuno Gomes and Hans Bruins.

The following Regional Wrap Kings had also been named previously, winning initial prize packages valued at almost $3,200:

·         North America East - Sean Tomlin, Designer Wraps

·         North America Midwest - Ken Tonn, Brand Installers

·         North America Central - Kevin Kempf, PG NOLA

·         North America South - Steve Carney, Carbon Wraps

·         North America West - Andy Soleimani, Sticker City

·         Canada - Connor William Barr, Coastal Car Wraps

·         Europe - Bong Nai Chi, WrapStyle

·         Australia & New Zealand - Nick Caminiti, Exotic Graphix

“It was great to see such a high level of workmanship and effort in this year’s entries. The competition was tight among the eight regional winners, but Caminiti’s entry really stood out,” said Wright, Wrap Like a King judge and technical marketing manager, Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions, Australia/New Zealand. “As a first time judge, I just want to say, ‘it’s harder than it looks!’ The panel had a difficult time, but Caminiti deserved every vote and the ultimate crown.”

The judges evaluated 224 total submissions based on the criteria of visual transformation (the difference between submitted before and after pictures), quality and skill level of installation, overall public look and appeal, and uniqueness of the design.

“Caminiti’s use of the Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film Diamond line was extraordinary. The mixing and matching of several Avery Dennison films exemplifies the creativity we hope our products are used to achieve,” said Jeff Losch, North America marketing director at Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions. “This year’s Challenge was open to two additional countries, and we hope to add even more in the future. Installers from all over the world brought their ‘A’ game.”

“I’ve been a judge for the Wrap Like a King Challenge since it was created in 2013. The entries this year were creative and some of the best technical work I’ve ever seen,” said Justin Pate, professional wrap installer. “The entire Challenge really represents the growth of the wrap community over the past four years. Every year the installers develop and show off stronger skills and push the envelope of what you can do with Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film and cast vinyl films.”
